Glenn Dunn Biography

Glenn Dunn was born and raised in Miami Florida. He graduated from Miami Killian Sr. High School. During his high school career Glenn excelled in music and leadership as drum major of the Marching Cougar Band. Glenn dated Laura Dings, the Captain of the Flags. They would eventually marry and raise three beautiful children; Thomas, James, and Joy.

Glenn’s high school psychology teacher, Dr. Clint Albury really encouraged him to explore the connection between motivation and music. Glenn found that there were two motivations: intrinsic and extrinsic. Music as a whole was primarily an internal motivator. People excelled in music because of their love for what they were doing, not because they were "pressured" from external forces. This understanding would eventual grow and be a major factor in shaping Glenn's perspective and life's work.

Glenn went on to study Music Education at the University of Miami and graduated from Florida International University with jazz piano as the principle instrument. During Glenn's tenure at FIU, Dr. Michael Wagner, Professor of Music Education continued to nurture the passion to learn more about the factors that contribute to motivation and organizational psychology. It was at this time that Glenn began to develop his organizational theory based upon the principles of jazz. “Freedom within Structure” would eventually become a proven method for good management for him.

After graduation, Glenn immediately took a high school teaching position. It was during this time that he was able to continue development of the concepts of motivation, organizational psychology and leadership. It was here that he was able to put what he had learned and his jazz management theory into practice. The classroom really became his classroom. Causing students to "want to" excel was his passions. It was tremendously rewarding. "In teaching you really learn to put others first. You succeed only when students succeed. That is frightening and thrilling at the same time!" says Dunn. "It is through teaching, and seeing that spark ignite that

is so rewarding. There is no place for selfishness. If students feel that you don't have their best interest at hand, they will smell it a mile away and will balk at your agenda." However, if they think you are for real, they will move mountains for you!" Dunn continues. Glenn has 11 years of teaching experience.

As Dr. Wagner watched Glenn excel in the art of motivating students throughout his teaching career, he invited him to be a guest lecturer on that very subject to the graduate students studying educational psychology. It was a rare honor and privilege.

After teaching, Glenn felt the call to go back to school and study theology. Graduating from the School of the Local Church, a bible college in Tulsa Oklahoma under the auspices of Bob Yandian, Glenn took a pastoring position in 92 in Homestead, Florida. Two months later, his church Love and Grace Fellowship was blown away by hurricane Andrew. This presented some real growing opportunities! Glenn continued to pastor Love and Grace till 2000.

Although this was a tremendous tragedy and challenge, the event became a potential catalyst to unite his church as well as the community. Churches were helping other churches in spite of denominational differences. Community organizations were all pulling together. Neighbors were helping neighbors. “There was a barn raising spirit that this community had not seen for some time” states Dunn. Love and Grace Church was eventually restored and came back stronger than ever!

Glenn saw these efforts and began to think, “Why do we have to wait for a tragedy before we come together and demonstrate unity?” It was this notion that was the seed for Homestead Fest.

Homestead Fest was a music driven event that brought over 100 community organizations together for a stadium concert and celebration.

Phil Driscoll, a world renowned trumpet player was the Headliner. He had this to say, “This festival is the wave of the future for communities.” Steve Shiver, Mayor of Homestead at the time was quoted in the South Dade News Leader as saying “The total attendance was 6500…I applaud the efforts of Homestead Fest and other groups with similar vision and intent. They continue to affirm the mentality that great things happen when we work together as a team.”

This was just one of many successful projects in which Glenn has inspired unified efforts.

Today Glenn is still in the teaching, educating and inspiring business. Drawing from years of organizational experience, research, and a command of wisdom principles, Glenn communicates concepts and ideas that challenge groups onward toward greater success. “My goal is to spark creativity! Creativity is released when the right atmosphere is set, best practices are conveyed, and the material is outstanding and presented with excellence!”

Glenn’s presentation is humorous, entertaining, and inspiring. His seminar format continues to have an explosive impact upon business leaders, schools, and the community at large.
